pulled off what? (spoilers)

Posted by: slipping jimmy (a.k.a mickpix) on Dec 19, 19:05 in response to CG63's post It couldn't have worked much better than this, period. JJ...

the story is basically a warmed-over remake of Episode IV.  Rey and Finn make it fun and they have some genuinely thrilling moments but mostly its just "hey here's another planet-destroying weapon and, oh, somebody needs to go blow up the shields so our ships can exploit (another!) weak spot in the defenses before it blows up the Rebel Resistance base"

and still JJ manages to disregard the entire look and feel of the OT's direction in favor of the usual vomit-cam CGI bull****.

hopefully Rian Johnson will aim higher than "eh, good enough"

Well this Star Wars thing couldn't have worked better for DIS. Dismiss Lucas, bring in Abrams and redeem the franchise. lhayes37 Dec 19, 14:56

Bob Iger couldn't have worked out better... {nm} tatoufan Dec 19, 15:29

They bought the whole thing from Lucas for 4.05 billion. Star Wars 7 is going to make at least 2.0 billion box office. {nm} lhayes37 Dec 19, 15:56

He also got Disney stock as part of the deal. {nm} RamsFan2004 Dec 19, 16:00

What about Leia and the wookie? {nm} second gary Dec 19, 16:23

They took the princess and the Wookie to his ship. {nm} RamsFan2004 Dec 19, 16:44

This deal's getting worse all the time. {nm} onenil Dec 19, 17:09

Pray I don't alter it further. {nm} Bubba_Fett Dec 19, 18:06

More likely to see a Storm Trooper over Donald Duck at Disneyland for how long? I say eternity. Your guesses? {nm} lhayes37 Dec 19, 18:17

it could have worked out better if they hadn't hired JJ slipping jimmy Dec 19, 18:44

It couldn't have worked much better than this, period. JJ pulled it off. {nm} CG63 Dec 19, 18:45

+1. For the first time in 32 years, I saw a Star Wars movie that felt like a Star Wars movie. {nm} Bubba_Fett Dec 19, 18:49

pulled off what? (spoilers) slipping jimmy Dec 19, 19:05

He pulled off a 95% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, overwhelmingly positive audience reactions and the #1 opening weekend of all time. {nm} CG63 Dec 19, 21:00

metacritic's 81 is (imho) a more accurate score slipping jimmy Dec 19, 21:30

and that's still a solidly positive score {nm} CG63 Dec 19, 23:01

like i say, it succeeds despite him slipping jimmy Dec 19, 23:07

Credit to Kathleen Kennedy for hiring the right guy. {nm} RamsFan2004 Dec 19, 19:58

(after all the better directors turned her down) {nm} slipping jimmy Dec 19, 20:37

Josh Trank was fired. {nm} RamsFan2004 Dec 19, 20:50

Wasn't Trank fired from Episode VIII? I could be wrong on that--but he definitely got fired. {nm} CG63 Dec 19, 20:59

I was making a joke but he was actually kicked off the Boba Fett solo movie. {nm} RamsFan2004 Dec 19, 21:11
