I saw STAR7 and i give it a 6 out of 10. - spoilers inside
I liked the 3D, that scene with Rey hanging on a rope in a big crashed spaceship was really beautifull. The girl who plays her is a real find. I liked the reveal of the millenium falcon. surprising and sort of emotional even. I also liked the fact that Harrison Ford ( almost ) has the lead part from the moment he walks onto screen. Chewbakka and Han Solo form a great duo in this film also. The scene with the 3 big tentacled monsters in the spaceship really stood out also.
In general I liked the first hour or so, very much.
Then it became more and more clear that we were not getting anything else than a rehash of the first Starwars film storyline. The cantinascene was a somewhat lackluster update of the original, the female yoda wasnt an improvement either.
The rebelattack on the ( bigger ) deathstar- spacestation was copied from the 1977 film also, trenchflying and all. But it didnt have the logic and choreography of that one.
The last scene where Rey finds... ( no... I don't want to spoil that for anyone ) ... that was great... That worked for me. If it wasnt for that ending I would have given the thing a 5.
I'm sure now the set-up for the new audience is behind us, that the sequel to this will be more interesting. So I havent given up hope for this franchise to entertain and surprise this 'older' cinefile in the future.
And no, I didn't see it in IMAX
