Is there an actual audience for The Angry Birds Movie?

Posted by: Willroast on May 15, 23:32

This flick confuses me. I never played the game but, outside of a very very small group of games (maybe 2), I've never been stoked to see a movie based on a game. And this one doesn't, as far as I can tell, even have a game-specific storyline to make it game-to-movie relevant.

I'm a person that actually really liked Resident Evil but I think it had a bunch to do with the fact that it had a story. Angry Birds is just what? Launching birds at houses right? I don't see a story there.

But, the trailer does look nice and I think kids will force their parents to spend money on most movies that look nice. Hence the decent pricetag for it. But am I totally off base that parents won't go with the kids? There seems to be zero reason that anybody that actually played the game (which seems to be like everybody but me) would feel a connection to an animated movie just based on it.

I just am having a hard time seeing how this movie hits. I'm certainly not trying to influence price as I am holding it the opposite way that I think I should be. But where is the audience?

I will contradict myself immediately by saying that I felt exactly the same way about The LEGO movie. {nm} Willroast May 15, 23:38

How'd that work our for ya? :) {nm} Dorfman May 16, 04:31

so... much... cha... ching... Can't... Handle... {nm} BSmurf May 16, 07:10

Yes. {nm} TheEradicator May 16, 00:22

I agree with you the trailer does look decent. Better than I thought it would. {nm} Dorfman May 16, 04:32

I can't even bring myself to watch the trailer. {nm} miss amanda jones May 16, 05:54

Are you waiting to catch an ANGRB / EMOJI double-feature next year? :) {nm} second gary May 16, 06:06

ill wait for candy crush to finish the trilogy {nm} adrenalin112 May 16, 11:48

Oh my gosh, I haven't seen YOU post here in AGES!! Welcome back!! :-) {nm} Flash May 16, 07:50

It's a brand, just like Lego. I think ANGRB is being heavily underestimated here because it's a movie that seems dumb to us. RickandMorty May 16, 05:04

Yes. Kids. And parents. Yes. {nm} ndmaster May 16, 05:33

Creative work can be done with very slender premises (think of "Pirates of he Caribbean"). {nm} second gary May 16, 05:43

Interesting to see how it performs against Neighbors 2. My guess is within 5 million opening week. Ken85 May 16, 05:50

It's not a great movie but it was entertaning (Solid B). Kids and some adults in my theater we're eating it up (beautifully animated, BTW) {nm} alfjox May 16, 06:58

There's got to be an audience for some movie this year. If Super Heros can't do it, maybe Angry Birds can. I remember how stupid pennystocks2 May 16, 07:07

My kids want to see it more than any other movie left this summer shadowking May 16, 07:11

It's in my Top 5...so I'll say yes:) TwoMisfits May 16, 13:05

I'm completely missing the signs on this one. the numbers aren't pointing to a huge opening lobogotti May 16, 13:20

Sure. It's timed right after Jungle Book. Kids are ready for something new. {nm} leo21 May 16, 18:19
