Sad day indeed! to show what a special person he was, a close friend of his said Gene kept the alzheimers.......

diagnosis private so he wouldn't disappoint his fans and quoted him saying "I can't bear the thought of one less smile in the world." what a special person and truly heatbreaking to lose him. he was always one of my favorite actors from the time i was a kid. must have watched willy wonka and the chocolate factory 200 times growing up and later blazing saddles! he will truly be missed by so many.
