I"d looked at a few of these reviews and was basically stunned. If they've done what's implied in a couple of these reviews..(spoilers)...
If they've completely re-booted this franchise, and in this case they made the decision to basically re-do The Iron Giant, and if they've done it fairly well, it sounds like that could be decent movie. The initial reviews seem to be reflecting this to a certain extent. That miss Steinfeld and Bumblebee and John Cena basically fill in for the original 3 main players in IG, with many of the same exact beats as that original.
Like just about anyone who has ever seen The Iron Giant, I love that film. It really holds a special place for me. I"m not past that movie being remade, and I'm not past the idea of taking that story and planting the seeds of it in a far more popular franchise, if that means getting that particular story out to more people.
If that's what they've done, then I think I'd be pulling for this movie to not completely suck, and to have some success, and hopefully that will lead people that haven't seen Iron Giant to get around to it eventually. Because I think it's a masterpiece.
If anyone has seen the film already, can you describe how much, if any, they use the IG plot points/story in this movie? I've seen it described as taking the basic skeleton of IG and using that, to literally stealing the original and planting it into this film. I've seen multiple reviews that seen to be describing Iron Giant, even if the critic doesn't know that film.
