we are hard pressed to find a comparable film that did worse in Christmas 2000's. And it did slightly better overseas. Panther and the Purges are not about politics per se but have political themes that are hidden behind a lotta icing. The Front Runner is a political film, the two docs are political films. I think films that are about politics fare worse in this environment. Some movies that find a niche overperform a little like RBG but look at Vice's advertising approach...to me it seems to be shying away from the seriousness and playing up the gallows humor of it all. I think it will be a big success for Annapurna but I think their biggest films are under 20m grossers.

The Grinch is having an amazing run. Look at those legs. Huge win for the film, it's beaten down both the Potter film and Ralph as well. Goodvibe61 Dec 21, 13:24

Do you own actual stock in the movie? {nm} EdwardHavens Dec 21, 22:08

I wish. Who wouldn't want to at this point? More importantly, where is part 2 of the Early Report? I've missed it badly for a long time now. {nm} Goodvibe61 Dec 22, 00:54

this reads like a trump tweet. {nm} whatmary Dec 22, 06:03

OK. Thanks for everything. Geez. So i guess the bottom line: lots of Grinch haters around here. Good to know. {nm} Goodvibe61 Dec 22, 09:43

trump would have tweeted she’s dumb as a rock and why isn’t Mueller investigating her corrupt financial dealings {nm} professor zovek Dec 22, 10:16

This is why political films are performing worse. We get politics everyday in everything we do now. Will be interesting to see if Vice is Catzan Dec 22, 11:55

There are political films and political films though. You have polemicists like Dinesh D’Souza and Michael Moore, whose movies have not done RogerMore Dec 23, 08:57

The Post went wide in January, had strong legs and $80M is in line with expectations set by eg Bridge of Spies, Charlie Wilson’s War etc RogerMore Dec 23, 10:18

You are right, I forgot it didn't go wide til January. But looking at January openers...that still looks soft. Hidden Figures which was Catzan Dec 23, 15:15

DL commented that Universal needed Grinch since Mortal and Marwen are duds thus far. Glad it is doing well, too. =) {nm} Catzan Dec 22, 11:58

they dumped Green Book to make room for Mortal (which isnt even theirs) and Marwen. They could have sold out shows of GB, but they have two Moviesnob Dec 22, 13:18

It's deja vu all over again. When I started with HSX, GRNCH was piling on 65M after delisting at 195 and GRNHW delisted at 114.... Buy BONDS xXx Dec 23, 06:45
