But my point is really that audiences are happy to have a dose of politics in their movies, it just depends on the type of movie.

”get angry about this” political movies like D’Souza and Moore - audiences are tired of this and they underperform

procedural “this is what happened movies” - perform to expectations, but don’t break out

action/horror/animation movies elevated by a political element even if it’s a bit shallow - stand out from ordinary action/horror/animation movies and outperform them

The Grinch is having an amazing run. Look at those legs. Huge win for the film, it's beaten down both the Potter film and Ralph as well. Goodvibe61 Dec 21, 13:24

This is why political films are performing worse. We get politics everyday in everything we do now. Will be interesting to see if Vice is Catzan Dec 22, 11:55

There are political films and political films though. You have polemicists like Dinesh D’Souza and Michael Moore, whose movies have not done RogerMore Dec 23, 08:57

I think The Post was the first sign of fatigue. It grossed under 100m despite opening 12/22/17. I think with the star power in that film, Catzan Dec 23, 09:45

You are right, I forgot it didn't go wide til January. But looking at January openers...that still looks soft. Hidden Figures which was Catzan Dec 23, 15:15

DL commented that Universal needed Grinch since Mortal and Marwen are duds thus far. Glad it is doing well, too. =) {nm} Catzan Dec 22, 11:58

they dumped Green Book to make room for Mortal (which isnt even theirs) and Marwen. They could have sold out shows of GB, but they have two Moviesnob Dec 22, 13:18

It's deja vu all over again. When I started with HSX, GRNCH was piling on 65M after delisting at 195 and GRNHW delisted at 114.... Buy BONDS xXx Dec 23, 06:45
