Or maybe they're just works of art occasionally exploring uncomfortably real concepts. And if a handful of bentees are triggered by a work of art...so what?

(Or if it really ignites a broader movement...maybe it focused attention on something that needed to be addressed? Are you operating under the assumption that we currently inhabit some kind of peak utopian society that can't be improved upon?)

I'm surprised no one has thought of this. Great work. (Apologies for the the fat thumbs above.) {nm} Wellespring Oct 05, 17:18

Ok...so how many "Saw" copycats were there? The issue is not whatever the catalyst is because there are many more types than just a movie. Catzan Oct 05, 18:07

"Saw" was in 2004. A lot has changed in 15 years. {nm} Aussie Oct 05, 21:16

Jigsaw came out 2017...8 movies of kidnapping and torture with another due out. {nm} Catzan Oct 05, 23:37

"kidnapping and torture" is not what JOKER is about Aussie Oct 06, 14:11

I thought your point was the film being a catalyst for violence. Any movie "could" be a catalyst and most are not. The Dark Knight Rises Catzan Oct 06, 20:32

Like I said... "The key is, it's about freedom through violence and anonimity." nm Aussie Oct 07, 16:34

Art pales in comparison to real life, it is a tool we use to attempt to deal with real life. {nm} DTravel Oct 05, 21:43

That idea is all over the sensational news here. They even closed down a theater (in CA, I think) because of a "credible threat" ndmaster Oct 05, 20:51

So we should also remove all Saw movies, Natural born killers, Hostel movies, and why keep all Halloween, Fridays and Chainsaw movies??? Lukasck Oct 07, 08:21
