Behold; The Ballad of VictorY

Posted by: HurricaneKid on Feb 07, 12:57 in response to Antibody's post DL midday: GOTCS $12.6M / $33.5M.

"DC films keep out-grossing each other, with each new film."

"I'm on record on this board saying I felt DC's upcoming line-up wasn't just strong, but could literally save the film business going forward."

"Birds set to be huge. I'm thinking a 200+ is a great run, if the film is good, even higher."

"Literally the entie Spring box office frame hinges on this."

"The "Birds of Prety" project alone (for DC) has multiple spin-offs and universe building oppurtunity unlike any super hero project I've seen in years."

"DC has the inside track after "Endgame."

Ā

None of those appear to be true today. Sorry VictorY, but BoP isn't saving the film business, literally or figuratively. Looks like the Sping season (and I'm sure, in your opinion the entire box office year) will suffer as a result. Oh, the horror. Refuting that last point in particular, Joker earned, and BoP on track to earn less than first post-Endgame film Far From Home.

DL midday: GOTCS $12.6M / $33.5M. Antibody Feb 07, 12:49

Oh man, that's a bad number. Dark Phoenix bad! That ends the DCEU saving the box office & being bigger than Marvel. {nm} jamesbik333 Feb 07, 12:58

It's not good, but its not DARK PHOENIX bad. BoP is still profitable and they'll want to stay in business with Robbie {nm} Moviesnob Feb 07, 13:08

also, that estimate, gulp, may be high. {nm} Moviesnob Feb 07, 13:13

BOP international numbers after 2 days are half of Shazam in the same markets. I think it'll gross < 200m WW {nm} jamesbik333 Feb 07, 14:21

We went to the 6 showing last night and it wasn’t sold out. Neither was the 7 that was added. Didn’t bode well {nm} MiyazakiFan Feb 07, 15:55

Disappointing perhaps, but the budget was only $97.1M vs DP which was $200M. {nm} ~JPV~ Feb 07, 13:08

It's not going to lose as much money as DP but this not a good #. And Deadline is usually high on their early estimates {nm} jamesbik333 Feb 07, 14:22

DL says R-rating might have hurt it...plus I was just reading in Empire that this movie is actually less violent than PG-13 Suicide Squad... {nm} tealfan Feb 07, 13:30

Shoulda took out the F-bombs? {nm} tealfan Feb 07, 13:30

Its also drawing in less women than CAPTAIN MARVEL or WONDER WOMAN (per Thurs exit polls) {nm} Moviesnob Feb 07, 13:32

Yeah, I think if your target audience is women under 25, an R-rating won't help your movie. {nm} RogerMore Feb 07, 13:54

Margot Robbie vanity project awaaaay! {nm} notfabio Feb 07, 15:02

So, already in the "who's/what's to blame" territory, huh? I'm sure it'll be men's fault. {nm} Filmstardust Feb 07, 17:02

Oh My! {nm} leo21 Feb 07, 13:38

THR: 33 million to $35 million range Antibody Feb 07, 13:42

so, was it the R-rating? Rishoutfield Feb 07, 16:28

Hahahahah keep it coming, Wokellywood ! Box office poison galore. {nm} Filmstardust Feb 07, 17:00
