it would be such a cruel blow to see Netflix have anything to do with theatrical. Netflix HATES theaterical. They LOATHE theatrical.
The idea that you're paying NETFLIX when you go to a theater is absolutely dreadful. It puts a pit in your stomach just thinking about it. it is indeed a sickening thought/idea.
With the theater closures happening this year, I've been able to avoid doing this at The Cinematheque. To this point, I haven't walked into that theater, sidled with the sick feeling that I'm actually giving money to Netflix, who have tried so hard for years now to get rid of audiences watching films together in a movie theater.
This feeling is not going anywhere. It's not going away any time soon, because no matter what happens, Netflix laid its cards on the table years ago regading its blatant disregard for movie presentation.
World circumstances have helped accelerate the demise of "filmgoing" as we've known it. It really is a heartbreaking thing. It's the ultimate in the bad guys winning. Having to deal with that is more than enough; having to actually pay the Nazi's, er, Netflix, when i do get to go watch a movie in a movie theater, is the worst kind of salt being poured in the wound.
