Yes. "Black Widow" earning over 60+ million is impressive for this current exhibition climate. But it's important to see full context.
Repeat business is still everything to studios on films. Yes, you can pay the 30+ fee (or whatever) to get "Black Widow" but its so much cheaper to just watch it in theaters multiple times and over time.
Streaming is (therefore) a double edged sword. Yes you can get intital numbers, but then they almost completely disappear in the next weekend as families and such are done purchasing. Theaters (on the other hand) can continue to offer a cheaper ticket option to watch the film that doesn't require a huge big investment at start. Much more repeat business that can literally go on for weeks/months.
As for theater splits. Yes, streaming can beat those on first weekend (money goes directly to studios on streaming platforms) but again, after first weekend- theaters provide a way to continue to monetize the film with filmgoers who want to venture out on weekends. Streaming numbers almost always disappear in under a couple weeks out.
So streaming can win on first weekend, but theaters can win all subsequent weeks after that- offering cheaper ticket options for film crowds The studios can't just abandon them cause repeat business on bilms is well over 50-60 percent of what they earn on films in release.
Hope that helps.
