Variety: Renny Harlin returning to shark movies after his Magnum Opus Deep Blue Sea, directing Deep Water for Gene Simmons? notfabio May 15, 12:06

Unsure if that title will stick considering Ben Affleck's Straight To Streaming Magnum Opus Deep Water. {nm} notfabio May 15, 12:07

How much time should pass before it’s okay for a movie to use a title that’s already been used before? {nm} Jay_Beezy May 15, 12:38

I know it’s too soon after Deep Water, though. {nm} Jay_Beezy May 15, 12:40

Kind of depends on if it's a one and done or launches other projects. Something like Deep Water 5 years? A big hit, 10-20 years? {nm} notfabio May 15, 12:46

Fair deal. Not that it'll get made, but my script shares a title with a hit heist thriller from 24 years ago. ;) {nm} Jay_Beezy May 15, 12:58

Can think only of Entrapment & Payback {nm} Tallwonder May 15, 13:39

One of those is correct. ;) {nm} Jay_Beezy May 15, 13:56

Unless it's a remake, a big hit is more likely 30 to Never. {nm} Antibody May 15, 13:34

So a new adaptation of the non-Marvel Avengers would need a new title. ;) {nm} Jay_Beezy May 15, 14:04

Not in the UK. Marvel's AVNGR had to be retitled Avengers Assembked in the UK. {nm} Antibody May 15, 14:30

Ah, right. Lol {nm} Jay_Beezy May 15, 14:32

In 2009 we had an animated movie called 9 & an arthouse flick called Nine. And lets ignore the fact that District 9 released the same year. {nm} Tallwonder May 15, 12:47

UnderU.S. copyright law, you cannot copyright a title so it depends a lot on how the Deep Water wording will be used otherwise such as project May 15, 15:43

The classic example of this potential P.R. nightmare is how would the public react if you publish an entirely new book and project May 15, 15:55

Moving to a cinematic example, you could,If you dare) title your next piece of no box office ever reported trash "Gone With the Wind" {nm} project May 15, 16:01

This was a generic reference to some readder/author's next output- not an aspersion on Forum poster's creative work. project May 16, 03:35

Joe Bob's Paycheck Entrapment-o-rama it is! {nm} notfabio May 15, 16:50

Don’t you mean *Payback* Entrapment-o-rama? ;) {nm} Jay_Beezy May 15, 17:19

It would definitely be problematic for business if there were two releases so close to each other to have a similar or exact title. Jay_Beezy May 15, 17:56

It doesn't have distro yet, they can call it DEEP WATER {nm} Moviesnob May 17, 13:41
