Although his film debut came in the 1985 sci-fi flick Explorers, Ethan Hawke did not land another acting role until 1989, when he was cast in Dead Poets Society. From that point, Hawke's acting career began to flourish, and he landed several starring roles in the 1990's. Hawke's stand-out performances include the 1994 slacker film Reality Bites and the 1995 Richard Linklater film Before Sunrise. Recently, Hawke starred opposite his wife Uma Thurman in 1997's Gattaca, and opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in 1998's update of Great Expectations.
