Dude seems to have completely forgotten that he's "telling a story", or at least that he should be. I had a similar reaction to The French Dispatch. Too precious by half.
I didn't laugh. Were there bits that were truly funny? I know; "help yourself to a hand grenade" for the fifth time was supposed to cause at least a smirk. It didn't. Neither did Tom Hanks and Bryan Cranston swishing every impossibly conceived basketball trick shot.
I don't know. It seems I've lost the center regarding Wes's work. Rushmore is one of my favorite films of all time, as is Tenenbaums. That was a long time ago. I've truly enjoyed the animated films, dig them all. and both Moonrise Kingdom and Grand Budapest were very enjoyable. That was a decade ago now. The last few live action films are just a no imo.
