Am back from seeing [GDIST]. It's a hipster flick for the west coast & the east coast, mainly. Compare [500DS] & [ALMOS]. Possible spoilers:
I kinda doubt it will be the most wide opener that weekend - so that honour might go to Machete instead. Either way, not much competition for GDIST that weekend.
Kinda freaks me out to see that both 500DS and ALMOS grossed around the same that GDIST is priced at now - odd and uncanny coincidence. I thought about those two movies while seeing this one, and now that I perform due diligence and check their final figures.. Weird. Anyhow, thought I might add that RLIVI's role in the movie is so small, it's probably not more seconds of screentime than Rob Riggle has. Meaning about a minute.
Even if this is a love story, I don't see it doing much more than 500DS or ALMOS. It's very much in that same vein. Those two others delisted at around 25-26, but ALMOS was considerably bigger, when adjusted for inflation. I can see this one too doing better than 500DS, especially as it opens wide, and isn't as confusing. On the other hand, JLONG might not be that big of a draw, and it's got very graphic scenes and ribald humour, for a rom-com. I say hipster flick, but perhaps not enough so to tick off all the same people who usually hate hipsters. But we'll see, in less than two weeks from now..
