I'm as conservative as they come, but think making drug use illegal is stupid. The reporter is wrong, heroin is not "toxic"
nor is it inherently "deadly". It is an opiate just like all other opiates, but it being illicit menas there is no control over strength or purity, and most heroin deaths are a result of contaminants, disease from having to use dirty needles, or getting a batch far more potent than you are used to. Additionally, a huge amount of crime is the result of needing to obtain money to pay high $ because drugs are illegal, this money funds criminals rather than treatment, and on and on.
