Just for clarification:
The laws that the USA have at the moment are based on Judeo-Christian principles found in God's Word. The reason why there is such a fierce debate over whether or not to legalise same-sex marriage is because it goes against those long-held principles. You can tell by my handle here that I obviously believe God's Word to be true, so naturally I would support the definition of marriage that God says in His Word, and that is one man for one woman, for life. However, I do agree with you that it shouldn't be up to the government to legislate on something that is essentially a religious ceremony such as marriage. So while I will never agree with same-sex marriage and therefore will never support it, I also will never agree that the government has the right to decide what marriage is and isn't, because it doesn't have the authority to do so, only God does.
