Whether or not the government recognizes something is a "big decision", yes.

In regards to the government discriminating, it already does when it comes to drinking (must be 21), voting (must be 18 and a citizen), running for president (must be at least 35 and a natural born citizen).

As for religion, I didn't bring it up at all. Not going to either.

Obama declares support for gay marriage Antibody May 09, 12:22

Who will he suck up to next to get reelected will he find dwarvish ancestors to go with the irish {nm} blaze223 May 09, 12:46

Well, at least he's sucking up to people who deserve the right to be treated equally, IMO. {nm} Paul2k May 09, 12:47

As i am unable to vote being unamerican sorry not american i guess it doesn't matter {nm} blaze223 May 09, 12:50

Don't worry about it. Not being American has never stopped Bono from commenting on our politics. {nm} Dave3626 May 09, 13:54

I doesn't necessarily stop people from voting in our elections, either. Except in states that have voter ID laws. {nm} edzep - Port Monkey! May 09, 15:18

I'm all for voter ID. After all, I need an idea to buy beer, buy cigarettes (if I smoked), and ID to drive, to get a job.......... {nm} Dave3626 May 09, 17:04

ID, not idea ^ {nm} Dave3626 May 09, 17:05

What's the connection between dwarves and the Irish? Maybe you meant leprechauns? {nm} Dave3626 May 09, 13:52

Obama realized he needed the irirsh americans on board to win "discovered" he had irish roots does the visiting thing blaze223 May 10, 01:08

I'm not too sure it's sucking up, since we are around the peak of the Civil Right issue that is same-sex marriage to say that either side... Trentacus May 09, 15:49

What is so blatantly ridiculous about this is that the largest group who cry out for LESS gov't intrusion in our lives (conservatives)... BSmurf May 09, 16:02

I have 3 gay family members, but I'm still against re-defining marriage. Whether a person is for it or against, either way I want to Dave3626 May 09, 17:10

"Big decisions have to be made with reason, not emotion." - You mean, like marriage kind of big decision? BSmurf May 09, 17:32

Whether or not the government recognizes something is a "big decision", yes. Dave3626 May 09, 18:14

It's weird that you can't be under 35 and run for president. Jane_Citizen May 09, 19:24

But there were several candidates with an IQ under 35. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2012 May 09, 23:58

I understand what you're saying. But if marriage doesn't affect society as a whole, why is it already so heavily regulated by government? Dave3626 May 10, 03:00

A distinction should be made between state and federal gubmint, and what each allows or regulates. In regards to close relatives- Paul2k May 10, 03:29

I never made the claim myself that it was detrimental, I just illustrated the common conservative argument since there seemed to be some qu Dave3626 May 10, 10:18

Seems like the interaction between the state and federal laws is a bit of a problem in the US. Jane_Citizen May 10, 18:51

I think the fact that many gay people want to marry is a good reason to allow it. Jane_Citizen May 10, 18:46

Well, I've never been affected by it at all. And what is a "family unit"? A mother and father? I was raised by one parent... I.. Trentacus May 09, 20:01

Article says he came to conclusion by talking with Michelle, his daughters, and the occasional gay person. Support it or not, either way Dave3626 May 09, 13:58

Did you read the whole article? Obama did articulate his logic and thought process in the interview. {nm} Andre C May 09, 23:56

Yes. I read the whole article. {nm} Dave3626 May 10, 10:33

Then you see that he gave the subject much hard thought and formed a reasoned opinion (whether you agree with his reasoning or not) Andre C May 11, 03:58

There are positions that some folks just have to come around to. Like realizing that wars like Viet Nam and Iraq were wrong. Like Jim Crow Buy StarBond Fund 18 May 09, 19:17

Anti-semitism led to the murder of 6 million Jews. Not sure this is the same league, Binns. {nm} Dave3626 May 10, 10:49

Which was started over there from the T4 modeled after America's own Eugenics and sterilization laws in most states. If we... Trentacus May 10, 12:17

The anti-semitism that climaxed with the Holocaust was festering for centuries in Germany and most of Europe. Dave3626 May 10, 13:18

Anti-semitism comes from teaching evolution in the public school system. It's a product of "my race is more highly evolved than yours", accountant_4_Jesus May 10, 15:53

Are you kidding? Anti-Semitism has been around much longer than evolutionary theory. Andre C May 11, 04:02

Just for clarification: accountant_4_Jesus May 10, 16:12

Very interesting what you said, and right about where I am, too. I think government should get out of the marriage business altogether. Dave3626 May 10, 17:48
