thoughts on 5.8

Yep - it does suck that it will be about 9-10 months before we see the next episodes. These were a great run!

Thoughts on 5.8:

I interpreted most of this episode to be Walt's coming to terms with all that has happened in the past year, and him realizing that he's gotten eveything he wanted and it's not making him happy.

At the start, he's thinking about having killed Mike and cleaning up that mess. Then he goes after Lydia/the prison 9, and ends up even better off after taking Lydia's offer. All obstacles removed, he's on cruise control over 3 months (the timsepan of this episode), and he's raking in the cash and there are no incidents, dangers, or anything that Walt has to deal with. It becomes routine and he begins to take stock and realize that there is more to his life than this.

He gets his cancer screening, and sees the dent in the bathroom towel dispenser that he put in it over a year ago. He recognizes how far he's come since then.

When he's outside staring at the pool, he's clearly taking stock, and Skyler gives him the push he needed by showing him the pile of money. Walt knows that he only needed $700k+ as his original goal and now he has many many times that much.

Walt begins the process of getting out: taking care of Jesse (who he knows that he wronged), and getting back on the path of being a good guy.

Then, Hank.

I knew that book was gonna be start of the downfall.
