I've seen (and gone to) fast food restaurants in my area on Thanksgiving and Xmas evenings when traveling home. Nice to be able to
grab a bite to eat on the long drive home, but maybe not so much for those workers.
On the other hand, I truly believe that no one is preventing them from bettering themselves and their skill sets and finding a better job. Most of them are in that position by their own choice (or lack of making better choices in their lives, which is pretty much the same thing).
As a far more callous person than I once said, "The world needs ditch-diggers, too." Not everyone is going to get the "good" jobs, especially if you're unwilling to do what it takes to qualify for them.
