I agree with your premise. I also love long form storytelling. What I am suggesting is that isnt what netflix is doing. I think they are treading water while just giving you enough to keep going (the flash fowards at the end of each episode). But a hint of a narrative still isnt a narrative. Look at Game of Thrones. each episode is still self contained but ALSO contributes to the larger story. Characters CHANGE inside of each episode. Each episode has a theme and a narrative arc that relates the characters, even if they dont interact, with each other. Bloodline (and seasons 2 and 3 of House of Cards) don't do that. they string you along. i'd rather them just be honest and make a 13 hour movie. One large arc over 13 hours. cutting it into 13 parts is BS and in my opinion, really poor storytelling.
I for one don't like that because the strategy to keep you watching is greater than the story itself.
