Boris was sacked from a job at The Times for fabricating a quote after his own godfather made a complaint. Margaret Thatcher described Johnson as her favourite journalist on the basis of his eurosceptic articles. In one 2002 newspaper column he used the words "picaninnies", and "watermelon smiles" when referring to Africans. In his book Friends, Voters, Countrymen, Johnson also said "If gay marriage was OK ... then I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men; or indeed three men and a dog"
