Spoilers (through episode 4 when I posted this on FB) and my thoughts of where it might go inside
Before episode 4 I was thinking that The Good Place was really purgatory, especially after a friend and I watched the firs three eps. I mean, it makes sense. Sure, Elanor was the POV into this world, but you can tell she's not the only one carrying a secret, which was confirmed in episode 4.
So, what if The Good Place isn't really purgatory, but a second chance to get into the Real Good Place? Since now we know Eleanor and Jianyu and both there under false pretenses, is there a chance for even more to be in the fake Good Place? So it's a second chance to be a good person to move on to what you really find as your version of the afterlife.
And it made me think back to the pilot. When the rules of the Good Place were explained, we were told that each religion was about 5% right, but a stoner got most of it right. And what if the picture on the wall is really Michael as a kid? Yeah, I'm going super down a rabbithole on this. And then you think about Chidi, the guy who teaches ethics. He had one person to convert to being an ethical human,and now he has another student. So maybe, just maybe he is the true architect of this Good Place in hopes of being an ethical person of converting more ethical people.
Or maybe I'm just overloaded with this walking pneumonia that my mind has nothing better to do than over analyze a comedy on NBC.
One more thought: It's called the Good Place, but not the Great Place. Each season could be in a different level of the different places.
Okay, now it's time to shut off the writer's mind (filled with cough syrup) and get some sleep.
