I would never walk up to a black lives matter supporter and say, "only black lives matter"? Of course we already know that all lives matter. It's more of being aware that some people need additional opportunities to showcase their gifts and talents.
When I'm working with kids, I can spot a natural leader a mile away, but it takes effort to find the shy introvert and say, hey, why don't you lead this time? With the right support, most kids start to believe in themselves more. As they contribute, their personality and potential are showcased. The group grows and is made stronger, able to do more things in greater detail with less effort, while having more fun.
Can we stop pointing fingers and calling names and just look past the outside, and say, "hey, what can we do together to make things better"? Protests and counter protests are just two sides screaming at each other and going home to stare at a mirror and say, "I'm a day older, but none wiser".
If segregation is wrong, and integration is too hard, why not partnerships? Find something that needs to be done and complete it with assistance from someone different than yourself.
Sometimes we just need to take that first step to learn how to walk.
