There is a difference between traditional republicans and President Trump.
Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are different democrats.
The republican voters turned down something like a dozen traditional republicans running for president.
He is not a traditional republican. That's not what the republican voters wanted. They wanted something new and different. Strange yes, unorthodox yes, a little crazy sure, but the republicans I know and have talked to were just tired of the games, the empty promises, the never ending politics. They just wanted someone who would do the opposite of what was already being done for the last 8 years. They did not care who, just someone different, anyone who would listen, and act.
I'm thinking the same thing happened with Bernie just on a smaller scale. The established tried and true political machine that is Washington DC, just failed to deliver any substantial benefit that would cause voters to continue on the path most traveled.
This populist movement as it is being called, is a divergence from traditional politics. The fact that the established Washington politicians and the mainstream media are not in favor of this should shock no one.
All of the money that went into all of the traditional political campaigns last fall, were to buy influence, sway, and favor. There was no payout. Non politicians were brought in to replace the old guard and the political lifers were marginalized, not by the other party, but by the American voters whom they claimed to have served.
I have no idea if this is a one time thing, or if it will last for awhile, but the last 5 special elections have left some credence to this movement, and as Bill Clinton used to say, "its the economy stupid".
