Sheriff convicted of doing his sworn duty to protect and enforce the immigration laws of the United States.

Posted by: TJNFL1 on Aug 25, 22:23 in response to slipping jimmy's post POTUS shreds rule of law (more), pardons Sheriff Joe...

"No one is above the law," tweeted U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz ..... unless your in the U.S. illegally, then we don't care about any laws that were broken.

Guilty of what?  Ignoring a liberal federal court order to cease serious law enforcement patrols that, with probable cause, stopped some Latinos on suspicion that they are in the country illegally?  Enforcing the immigration laws of the United States was his job.

"Throughout his time as sheriff, Arpaio continued his life's work of protecting the public from the crime that is illegal immigration.  Even Canada is now recognizing that their immigration laws must be enforced.

He has done a lot in the fight against illegal immigration. He's a great American patriot. His pardon is fully deserved.  Thank you for your service to our "country of laws" Sheriff Arpaio.

Any liberal judge that tells law enforcement to stop enforcing the law should be locked up.  A judge can not overwrite a law that they don't particularly agree with.  That is the job for legislators, not judges.

Illegals are never going to stop entering the United States until the consequences of violating the laws of the United States becomes a serious deterrent.

glad he's focused on what matters. Also, hello from Austin Texas! {nm} Moviesnob Aug 25, 17:25

Category 4 so far - not (CATG5) yet. {nm} Captain Obvious Aug 25, 21:22

Moral of the story - you don't have to follow laws that were passed by a party you don't agree with. Good to know. {nm} dubord.s Aug 25, 22:27

Even during a storm, you can do your job. Its what you get paid for. Suspending law enforcement just creates more problems. TJNFL1 Aug 25, 23:00

Contempt Of Court is not a Problem for a Birther when there is a Birther in the White House. {nm} Captain Obvious Aug 25, 23:32

And Obama was never going to pardon Hillary if Comey decided to call it a "Crime" instead of a "Matter"? {nm} TJNFL1 Aug 26, 00:09

Whataboutism. {nm} Captain Obvious Aug 26, 00:24

About as relevant a hypothetical as "won't Trump pardon Bannon if he's charged with a hate crime?" {nm} dubord.s Aug 26, 14:34

Historically, that would be accurate. Many similarities between Truman and Trump. {nm} TJNFL1 Aug 29, 00:29

Having brown skin isn't probable cause. Latinos have been in Arizona longer than Anglos. {nm} Antibody Aug 27, 10:15

CBC: Trump's hinted pardon of ally Joe Arpaio called 'extremely unusual' (on legal and political grounds) dubord.s Aug 28, 08:37

How can anyone at this point, say anything Trump does is 'extremely unusual'? {nm} TJNFL1 Aug 29, 01:09

Unusual for POTUS considering precedents. Nothing unusual given Trump's short track record. {nm} dubord.s Aug 29, 09:39

Prosecution was a politically motivated attempt by the Obama administration to undermine his re-election bid. {nm} TJNFL1 Aug 29, 13:17

Ah, so then it was ok to break the law because he disagreed with the current administration's and court's decisions. {nm} dubord.s Aug 29, 14:24

Convicting someone over an interpretation of a guideline sounds more political than it does criminal. TJNFL1 Aug 29, 20:54

the role of judges is to do exactly that - interpret law (or, as you say, "guideline"). The interpretation in this case wasn't political as Moviesnob Aug 30, 07:53

Here's an interesting thread from one of his CLERKS {nm} Moviesnob Aug 30, 07:53

If it's something he agrees with, it's a law. If it isn't, it's a "guideline". {nm} dubord.s Aug 30, 09:08

i think thats a running joke from the first Pirates of the Caribbean. Just replace "pirate code" with "US Constitution" {nm} Moviesnob Aug 30, 09:20

We'll just call it a "matter". {nm} TJNFL1 Sep 01, 02:01
