The big issue is that this cant possibly be a straightforward precursor to TOS. Theyve intro'd too many extreme concepts (spore drive, holo communications, burnham/sarek) that simply didnt exist in TOS and beyond. I get you dont want to be hamstrung by 60s limitations, but at face value, its near impossible to reconcile.
Unless its the twist. Parallel universes, maybe the Mirror Universe are coming into play. If this advanced tech is from an alternate universe, then it makes the tech issue moot, and my grade goes up a notch or two.
Because theres some great stuff. That spore drive effect might be the best theyve ever done. And Saru's look is a marvel of actor and makeup.
But, there is so much bad. Characters dont feel real, only doing what the plot or budget restrictions or producers demand happen. Bad decisions made over and over; careless, illogical moves. The disconnect between main characters and background extras is laughable, its like the writers dont realize there are other people on the ship. The klingons were not compelling and the ridiculous makeup made them look like 2 dollar halloween masks
Its watchable for sure, things happen. so fast and all the time. so you cant say its boring at least. but more development would be good
the cbs all access overall is worthless to me. browsed the whole listings and not one other show id want to watch. tried one episode of voyager and it looks like they used an old vhs copy it was so low res (using SD is unforgivable, especially when the netflix hd ones look so good)

voyager and ds9 look terrible on cbs aa, but totally fine on netflix. btw, voyagers last 4 seasons are shockingly rewatchable Nov 13, 12:56
and aa is using sd tng, whereas netflix is using the hd remastered. makes no sense {nm} Nov 13, 13:02
