Others are free to wallow in political correctness, but I call a bigot a bigot, a half-educated rube a half-educated rube, and a depleted backwater town a depleted backwater town. Accuracy is generally a sound policy.
I also call a school that teaches nonsense and suppresses academic freedom a backwater religous school, a person who cloaks intolerance in supernatural claims a bigoted religious kook, and a person who dislikes progress and isntead pines for good old days that never existed (unless you where white, rich, selfish, straight, superstitious, and devoid of self-awareness) a stale-thinking right-winger.
I prefer science to dogma, inclusivity to insularity, education to ignorance, tolerance to bigotry, reason to superstition, progress to backwardness. I believe the people who choose otherwise -- and who tend to populate our can't-keep-up rural and southern stretches constitute a drag on our nation and a stain on our society. I hope their stale thinking leaves our midst, the sooner the better.
