When they announced this tour a year or so ago, the question was, would they even make it to America without killing each other? But here we are.
My wife and I have been following along, extremely jealous while watching the thousands of videos getting published every weekend from their shows. We did go up to town a couple weekends ago when their Pop Up store opened up on Hollywood Blvd; lots of fun and really whet everyone's appetite for the show.
I cannot wait; we're going to the Sunday show. My kid and his girlfriend are flying in for it; her favorite band. I've really loved their music ever since the very first time I saw the Wonderwall video on MTV. 30 years ago.
My wife and I talk about the back and forth of British and American Rock and Roll alot more than just about anyone most likely lol. We did NOT know the first Oasis album, the incredible Definitely Maybe, until AFTER we absorbed What's the Story Morning Glory. They basically didn't exist yet in America, even though the first record triumphed all across Europe. This is one of the things that happens with rock and pop music. Some of my very favorite bands in rock history never really made it in the United States:
The Kinks (their success here is a mere shadow of their success and influence in the U.K. and Western Europe;
T. Rex (one of the all time greatest rock artists; here, it's Bang A Gong and maybe Jeepster. That's sad; all of his albums up to early passing are in a heavy rotation at our place.
The Faces. How can that be? How can such an incredible band be basically passed over here? They toured here alot; known to hard core fans. Almost zero radio airplay here.
And so on. Slade anyone?
Anyway, I went out and bought Definitely Maybe a couple weeks after Morning Glory. We went on to LOVE both Oasis and Blur, and our feelings didn't go away all through the 2000's as Oasis was still putting out some incredible music while their popularity in America lessened somewhat.
We always knew that, when the day came and the Gallaghers decided to tour again, that Europe would basically stop to hear them. Those shows over there were nothing short of incredible events accordings to friends over there. We've been patiently waiting; they've played the past few weekends here in the states and North America; we're up last this weekend here is Los Angeles (The Rose Bowl). It's going to be freaking huge.
This is one of those weekends where the movies have to take a back seat.
