Okay, further thoughts
1) You will have problems trying to mix Starbonds and Moviestocks in the same index. The two operate very differently and aren't really compatable for that kind of side-by-side comparison.
2) If you want to factor in "market capitalization", then you want to measure the total number of shares held long and short. Maybe just the difference between the two since the number of shares held is always going to be growing as more players join and existing portfolios grow and have more to buy shares with. Also measuring the change in the difference I think would be better for measuring the players' confidence in future box office.
3) You may also want to measure the number of shares traded, though expect bumps on Sun, Mon and Tue as stocks adjust and delist. Even is you don't include delisting stocks in this count there is still going to be a bump as players re-invest the money from delists.
Now all those numbers are already available for individual securities. The issue would be pulling them from every security. An individual could in theory do that, IF their connection was fast enough and IF the site could feed them fast enough. Personally I wouldn't want to try it. You would need the site to generate those numbers and then make them available in some form rather than trying to read every security page on the site.
