DESCRIPTION
James Caan began his career in the 1960s, working his way up the theatrical ranks before briefly appearing in a Broadway production of Mandingo. By the late '60s, Caan had become a bona fide movie star, starring in such Howard Hawks films as 1965's Red Line 7000 and 1967's El Dorado. In 1969, Caan appeared in Francis Ford Coppola's The Rain People, establishing a working relationship with the director that would pay huge dividends in 1972's The Godfather. Caan's riveting performance as Sonny Corleone earned the actor an Academy.
