Why are moviestock listings so limited?

Posted by: Phatcat on Jun 07, 17:54

I am not a serious player, but I have casually played for over a decade. When recently coming back to the site it seems like a heavy portion of the moviestocks are smaller international (french) films or recently announced movies that are going straight to a streamer, mixed in with the obvious huge franchise movies. That just seems like a tool for players whose goal it is to make money to easily do so. Short the $2 Netflix IPO, profit. Grab the ipo of a comic book sequel, profit. I get it - the object is to make money - but is it really fun for anyone to go through the motions of an easy money trade? The true essence of this game in the beginning was to find a project that was being talked about, that you felt had the chance to be a big commercial success, and get in early. I read and hear about these all of the time but inevitably there is never a movie stock for them.

So my question is why are there not more moviestocks? Even if you were to just list all of the "Blacklist" screenplays, or 'new in production' from PW or the like, it seems like the more options the better. Is it a manpower thing? I understand that there is only one person running the site now? If that is the case, totally understandable and I commend him for his work. I just think if it is not that, and an opinion that the game is better this way, I disagree and would like to hear the rationale.

yes Grunt Jun 08, 07:26

Fair enough I guess... BTW Phatcat Jun 08, 12:11

Broken Abacus from the Walmart Discount Bin. {nm} Captain Obvious Jun 08, 12:37

I read it wrong. Mebbe my eyes were crossed. {nm} Grunt Jun 09, 08:18

Only films likely to be made and released theatrically. I'd guess only 1 in 20 Blacklist Screenplay gets made. Antibody Jun 11, 11:55

I understand that, but I think therein lies my question/point. Phatcat Jun 13, 14:10

Its also a matter of that's the way the industry works now. DTravel Jun 13, 15:51

The game is about predicting the box office. Buying a cheap stock and hoping it hits big doesn't really do that. {nm} Antibody Jun 13, 17:04

Fair point, but how does offering a Netflix movie offer anything to that end? {nm} Phatcat Jun 13, 19:55

They're offered close to what they're worth and used to track theatrical releases with StarBonds and Award potentials. {nm} Antibody Jun 13, 20:27

You're currently holding only 26 securities. There are nearly 1000 MovieStocks you can invest in. {nm} Antibody Jun 13, 17:15

I don't play the game the same way or for the same reasons others do... to simply accumulate H$. Phatcat Jun 13, 19:53

There are hundreds of MovieStocks in development you can pick and choose from. Antibody Jun 13, 20:21

Ironic that you want Improvements to the HSX Game when you are playing just 1.1% of it (26 / 2,303 M/S, S/B, Derivatives, MovieFunds). Captain Obvious Jun 13, 18:44

This is the Feedback forum, right? Am I not supposed to offer "feedback"? {nm} Phatcat Jun 13, 19:39

And you did. And you received Obvious Feedback to your Feedback. That's how it works. {nm} Captain Obvious Jun 13, 19:43

All that you have is an IDEA. For a Serious Submission, you need a PLAN - Objectives, Actions, Resources, Implementation Procedures. {nm} Captain Obvious Jun 13, 22:24
