In what may be the most personal film director Roman Polanski has ever made, The Pianist details a remarkable true story of survival in World War II. Polanski, himself a Holocaust survivor, won the prestigious Palme d'Or from the Cannes Film Festival, and the movie was also named best of the year by the National Society of Film Critics.
