Country-western crooner Dwight Yoakam has just moved into the motion picture territory to hone his talents. He makes his directorial debut with the flick South of Heaven, West of Hell. The picture stars Bridget Fonda, Peter Fonda, Vincent Gallo, Vince Vaughan, and Billy Bob Thornton. The picture can be classified as a modern-day western with the Yoakam playing a bachelor who must face his family's criminal past and a confrontation with a ruthless villain. In the process he must also save his beloved played by Bridget Fonda.
The film premiered at the 2000 Slamdance Film Festival and has been acquired by TriMark Pictures . The Gothic Western will be released some time early 2001.
