Description

A female musicologist in early 20th-century America is stifled in her career by a male-dominated university and sets off to join her sister in rural Appalachia.

There she discovers that the mountain people play a music purely derived from their Irish and Scottish forebears. Generations have transmitted this folk music in its unadulterated form and, not coincidentally, generations have transmitted a way of life in its undisturbed form to these Appalachian people as well.

Written and directed by Maggie Greenwald, SongCatcher stars Janet McTeer and Aidan Quinn.
