The engaging documentary The Year of the Yao chronicles the Chinese basketball star who plays center for the Houston Rockets. The film follows the amicable Yao Ming as he goes through his first year in the NBA, carrying the hopes and dreams of his homeland, and dealing with the pressures of immigration and assimilation. Adam Del Deo and James D. Stern directed the film, which was a hit at the 2004 Toronto Film Festival.
