Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs [CWCMB] brought in an estimated $30.1 million to score the biggest opening for Sony Animation. 2006's Open Season held the previous high of $23.6 million. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs benefited from 3D screens which accounted for more than 55% of its box office. Family comprised nearly 80% of the audience for the PG-rated animated film.
The Informant! [INFOR] debuted in second place with $10.5 million. Matt Damon starred in the R-rated comedy directed by Steven Soderbergh.
Last weekend's top film Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself [ICDBA] declined 57% in its second weekend to $10 million. The Lionsgate drama has earned $37.9 million.
The Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy Love Happens [LVHAP] opened fourth overall with $8.5 million.
The Megan Fox horror film Jennifer's Body [JBODY] rounded out the top five with a disappointing $6.8 million.
