Grossing more in its opening weekend than the first film in its entire theatrical run, Pitch Perfect 2 [PTCP2] hit a high note beyond all expectations with an estimated $70.3 million to top the weekend box office. Girlpower was on display as the audience was 75% female and 62% under the age of 25.
Mad Max: Fury Road [MMAX4] revved $44.4 million to debut in second place. Coming 30 years after the last Md Max, the sequel attracted acrowd that was 70% male and 54% percent over 35.
After its two week reign, Avengers: Age of Ultron [AVNG2] dropped to third with $38.8 million. Marvel's mightiest heroes have banked $372.0 million.
Hot Pursuit [DMWTX] took in $5.8 million to finish fourth. The female buddy comedy tumbled 59% in its second weekend to bring its totatl to $23.5 million.
