Doubling its production budget with its opening weekend, the thriller Don't Breathe [AMITD] topped the box office with an estimated $26.1 million. It outpaced last year's The Visit's $25.4 million as indicated by advance ticket sales.
Kubo and the Two Strings [KUBO] held 63% its second weekend for $7.9 million and third overall.
Mechanic: Resurrection [MCHN2] debuted in fifth place with $7.5 milliom, short of The Mechanic's $11.4 million.
War Dogs [ARMDU] finished seventh with $7.3 million, dropping 51% from its opening weekend.
Expanding to 909 theaters, Hell or High Water [CMNCH] grossed $3.7 million to bring its cumulative total to $8.6 million.
Opening outside the top 12 are Southside with You [SSWYU] at $3.1 million and Hands of Stone [HNDST] at $1.7 million.
