Not even the Alien branding can overcome the stench of Prometheus as Alien: Covenant [PRME2] underperformed with an estimated $36.0 million to lead the weekend box office. The sci-fi prequel attracted an audience that was 62% male and 66% over the age of 25.
After two weeks at the top, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 [GOTG2] slipped to second with $35.1 million. The Marvel sequel runs its total across $301.8 million.
Everything. Everything [EVRYT] opened in third place with $12.0 million. The teen romance skewed 82% female and 74% under the age of 25.
Snatched [MTDTR] dropped 61% in its second weekend to $7.6 million and fourth overall. The comedy has earned $32.8 million.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul [WIMP4] grossed $7.2 million to debut in fifth place.
King Arthur Legend of the Sword [KARTH] finished sixth at $6.9 million, down 55% from itsopening weekend.
