The nominees for the 91st Academy Awards were announced earlier today. Roma and The Favourite led the way with 10 nominations each. The Hollywood Stock Exchange offered NominOptions for the leading contenders in the top eight categories and HSX traders collectively predicted 88% of this year’s Oscar nominees. Here's the break down by category.
Best Picture named 8 nominees this year: A Star Is Born [N9PASB], Black Panther [N9PBPM], BlacKkKlansman [N9PBKM], Bohemian Rhapsody [N9PBOH], Green Book [N9PGRN], Roma [N9PROM], The Favourite [N9PFAV] and Vice [N9PVIC]. HSX predicted 7 out of 8, choosing If Beale Street Could Talk ahead of Vice.
The Best Director nominees are Adam McKay – Vice [N9DAMC], Alfonso Cuaron – Roma [N9DACU], Spike Lee – BlacKkKlansman [N9DSLE], Yorgos Lanthimos – The Favourite [N9DYLA] and Pawel Pawlikowski – Cold War. HSX had 4 out of 4 as Pawlikowski was not issued an NominOption.
The Best Actor nominees are Bradley Cooper – A Star Is Born [N9ACO], Christian Bale – Vice [N9ACBA], Rami Malek – Bohemian Rhapsody [N9ARMA], Viggo Mortensen – Green Book [N9AVMO] and Willen Dafoe – At Eternity’s Gate [N9AWDA]. HSX picked 4 out 5, missing Dafoe with John David Washington - BlacKkKlansman.
The Best Actress nominees are Glenn Close – The Wife [N9CGCL], Lady Gaga – A Star Is Born [N9CLGA], Melissa McCarthy – Can You Ever Forgive Me? [N9CMMC], Olivia Colman – The Favourite [N9COCO] and Yalitza Aparicio – Roma [N9CYAP]. HSX hit a perfect 5 for 5.
The Best Supporting Actor nominees are Adam Driver – BlacKkKlansman [N9RADR], Mahersala Ali – Green Book [N9RMAL], Richard E. Grant – Can You Ever Forgive Me? [N9RREG], Sam Eliott – A Star Is Born [N9RSEL] and Sam Rockwell – Vice [N9RSRO]. HSX got 4 out of 5, having gone with Timothee Chalamet – Beautiful Boy instead of Eliott.
The Best Supporting Actress nominees are Amy Adams – Vice [N9SADA], Emma Stone – The Favourite [N9SEST], Marina De Tavira – Roma [N9SMDT], Rachel Weisz – The Favourite [N9SRWE] and Regina King – If Beale Street Could Talk [N9SRKI]. HSX selected 4 out of 5, snubbing De Tavira for Claire Foy – First Man.
The Best Adapted Screenplay nominees are A Star Is Born [N9EASB], BlacKkKlansman [N9EBKM], Can You Ever Forgive Me? [N9ECYE], If Beale Street Could Talk [N9EIBS] and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. HSX was 4 for 4 as and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs did not have an NominOption.
The Best Original Screenplay nominees are First Reformed [N9OFRF], Green Book [N9OGRN], Roma [N9OROM], The Favourite [N9OFAV] and Vice [N9OVIC]. HSX chose 4 out of 5, favoring Eighth Grade over First Reformed.
The 91th Oscars ceremony will be presented on February 24th. The AwardOptions for these Oscar nominees will begin trading Thursday at 9 a.m. Pacific. Good luck!
