Universal has unveiled the official trailer for the ninth chapter in The Fast Saga, F9 [FAST9].  Vin Diesel [VDIES] leads the returning cast members of the Fast & Furious family, while John Cena [JCENA] joins the cast as Dominic Toretto's little brother.  Directed by Justin Lin [JLIN],  F9 speeds into theaters on May 22nd.

Super Bowl weekend this year kicks off two new releases that serves as counter-programming for female moviegoers. However, neither films have gained much traction. Bad Boys for Life [BADB3] will remain threepeat champion with around $16 million.

The Photograph opens on Valentine's Day, February 14th.

Showing a particular strong hold for a blockbuster sequel coming off a holiday weekend, Bad Boys for Life [BADB3] slipped just 46% from its opening to stayed atop the box office with $34.0 milliom.  The current total is $120.6 million.

1917 [1917] remained in second place with $15.8 million, advancing its total to $103.9 million.

Staying at the third spot, Dolittle [DOCDO] declined 43% in its second weekend to $12.5 million.  The family film has banked $44.7 million.

Focus Features has unveiled the official trailer for the political comedy Irresistible [IRSTB] written and directed by Jon Stewart. Steve Carell [SCARE] stars as a Democrat political consultant who enlists a retired ex-Marine colonel, played by Cooper [CCOOP], to run for mayor in a small Wisconsin town. Irresistible hits theaters on May 29th.

Two new wide release arrive this weekend targeting at different sexes. Neither will prove competition for Bad Boys for Life [BADB3]. Even if the action comedy sequel declines 55% in its second weekend, Bad Boys For Life will still cash in another $28 million.

The Oscar frontrunner 1917 [1917] looks to maintain its strong hold with around $13 million in its third weekend of wide release.

Showing no signs of franchise fatigue over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Bad Boys for Life [BADB3] led the 4-day box office with an estimated $73.4 million, the second biggest opening ever for the holiday weekend behind $107.2 million from 2014's American Sniper.   The sequel brought out an audience that was  55% male and 61%  aged 25 or older.

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend brings two franchise revivals, but only one appears to be a hit.   Bad Boys for Life [BADB3] reunites Will Smith and Martin Lawrence more than 16 years after Bad Boys 2 opened to $46.5 million July 2003.  Not directed by Michael Bay, the R-rated sequel has scored the best reviews of the trilogy.
