Two surprise hits from the summer of 2013 get sequels this weekend along with a fantasy hoping to be the beginning of a new franchise. The master of horror James Wan [JWAN] returns with The Conjuring 2 [CNJU2]. The original film broke out with $41.9 million in July 2013 and legged out $137.4 million. Patrick Wilson [PWILS] and Vera Farmiga [VFARM] reprise their roles as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who now travel to England to take on the Enfield Poltergeist....
Another weekend, another sequel underperformance as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows [TMNT2] led with an estimated $35.3 million, dwon from the $65 million debut of the first film.
