Fox has unleashed the teaser trailer for the latest sci-fi film set in a dystopian future, The Maze Runner [MAZER], based on a best-selling young adult novel.  A group of boys are sent to a  massive maze set amongst the ruins of an old city.  Each day, they try to find an escape route.  Dylan O'Brien stars as the new kid who may hold the key to unraveling the mystery, if he can only unravel memories of his past.    The Maze Runner reaches theaters on September 19th.

The two new wide releases underperformed at the weekend box office allowing for Mr. Peabody & Sherman [MRPBS] to rise to the top spot with an estimated $21.2 million.  The animated film declined just 34% in its second weekend to bring its total to $63.2 million.

300: Rise of An Empire [XERXE] was dethroned to second place at $19.1 million.  The sequel dropped 58% from its debut and sits at $78.3 million after 10 days.

Universal has unveiled the debut trailer for the James Brown biopic Get On Up [GSOUL] on Apple.  Chadwick Boseman [CBOSE] stars as the Godfather of Soul in his life story that starts with a poor childhood and goes through a stint in prison before Brown found his calling as a singer who popularized funk music and influenced countless generations of musical artists.  Viola Davis [VDAVI] and Octavia Spencer [OSPEN] reunite with The Help director Tate Taylor.  Get On Up gets down on August 1st.

Hoping for a Fast & Furious franchise of its own, Disney launches the actioner Need for Speed [NFSPD] based on the long-running videogame series. Seven years after 300 blew the gates off the box office, its 3D sequel 300: Rise of an Empire [XERXE] returned to the top with an estimated $45.1 million.  The stylized Greek epic attracted an audience that was 63% male, and 3D accounted for 63% of the receipts. 

Mr. Peabody & Sherman [MRPBS] opened in second place with $32.5 million.  Families made up 80% of the moviegoers.

Last weekend's champ Non-Stop [NONST] finished third at $15.4 million, down 47% from its debut.

Sony has released the trailer for the horror film Deliver Us From Evil [BWRNT] on Apple.   Eric Bana [EBANA] stars as a NYPD officer who is investigating a series of crimes linked to demonic possession with the help of a priest, played by Edgar Ramírez [EDRAM].  Directed by Scott Derrickson, Deliver Us From Evil arrives in theaters on July 2nd.
