Lionsgate has premiered the first trailer for the horror film The Cabin in the Woods [CBNWD], which had been on the shelf of a bankrupt MGM for over two years.  Pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth [CHEMS] leads a group of five friends into a remote cabin in the woods that turns out to be a hunting ground fenced in for some mysterious, monstrous killers.  The Cabin in the Woods will finally see release on April 13th, 2012.

With no new wide release in the traditionally slow weekend for box office after Thanksgiving, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 [TWLI4] earned an estimated $16.9 million to three-peat at number one.  The vampire romance has already drawn $247.3 million.

The Muppets [MUPET] proved to be extremely front-loaded, dropping 62% to $11.2 million in its second weekend.  The movie apparently appealed more to fanboys than family movigoers.

Open Road Films has unveiled the full trailer for the wilderness adventure The Grey [TGREY] with an introduction from star Liam Neeson [LNEES] and Frank Grillo.   It's not much different from the teaser, and retains the money shot of Neeson preparing to fight wolves with his knuckles of broken glass minibottles, which rumor has it doesn' pay off in the actual movie.  Audiences will find out on January 27th.

Disney has released a new trailer for the action adventure John Carter [OMARS] starring Tyler Kitsch [TKITS] as the pulp science-fiction hero created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.  The new cut wisely drop the Civil War footage set on Earth, which had only confused viewers who couldn't tell which scenes actually on Mars versus Earth.   The trailer offers the first good look at some of the Martian creatures and a gladiator arena battle reminiscent of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. ...

Three new family films fight for Thanksgiving holiday leftovers as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 [TWLI4] sucked in $62.3 million over the five-day weekend to repeat in first place.  The vampires have already amssed $221.3 million in10 days.

The Muppets [MUPET] successfully made its comeback with an estimated $42.0 million over the long weekend.  The film played to all four quadrants as the audience was split evenly between males and females, while 54% was under the age of 25.

Nailing the fifth best opening weekend of all times, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 [TWLI4] bite off an estimated $139.5 million.  However, the fourth installment failed to top the series best $142.8 million from 2009's The Twilight Saga: New Moon.   As expected 80% of the audience was female, while 50% was over the age of 25.  All the Twilight films have been extremely front-loaded by Twihards.
