Two movies about supernatural forces open wide this weekend to get audiences in the mood for Halloween. A year ago, Paramount took the low-budget horror film Paranormal Activity and marketed it into a pop culture phenomenon that grossed over $107 million. A sequel Paranormal Activity 2 [PNAC2] was quickly produced using the same captured-on-home-video setup. Strong presales indicate fan interest remain high on the R-rated horror series. Opening in 3216 theaters, Paranormal Activity 2...
After low-quality bootlegs of the trailer leaked, Dimension has finally released an official trailer for Scream 4 [SCRM4]. Ghostface 2.0 (isn't it 4.0?) has discovered a killer app in social media as the fourth film updates the meta-horror franchise for the digital generation. Neve Campbell [NCAMP], Courtney Cox [COCOX] and David Arquette [DARQU] return from the original trilogy.
Warner Bros. has unveiled the first trailer for the latest "inspired by a true story" exorcism thriller The Rite [TRITE] on Apple. Anthony Hopkins [AHOPK] stars as an unorthodox priest at the Vatican who teaches a skeptical seminary student the fine arts of exorcism and reveals the dark side of Catholicism. The Rite doesn't seem to offer anything you haven't seen before. How about having the devil possess someone other than a teenage girl for once?
Disney has uploaded the teaser trailer for the next animated film from Pixar Cars 2 [CARS2]. Lightning McQueen and Mater return as undercover vehicles?
Paramount has stepped up with a second trailer for the boxing drama The Fighter [FITER] after the schmaltzy first trailer sold it like a conventional sports drama. The new trailer slowly ratches up the tension and builds up the intensity of a hard-hitting, sophisticated drama that's worthy of awards consideration.
Showing fans still love their outrageous stunts more than ever, Jackass 3D [JCKA3] grossed an estimated $50.0 million to break the box office record for biggest opening weekend in October. The previous mark of $48.1 million was held by 2003's Scary Movie 3. Even with inflation and the 3D surcharge, Jackass 3D sold more tickets than Jackass 2. Johnny Knoxille and his pranksters are likely to cross the $100 million mark overall.
The elders of Red [RED1] didn't perform so bad themselves...
Sony Pictures has revealed the first look at the next film directed by Gus Van Sant [GVSAN], the coming-of-age romance Restless [RSTLS]. Mia Wasikowska [MWASI] and Henry Hopper, son of the late Dennis Hopper, star as two lonely teenagers who form a connection and slowly fall in love.
The boundary of live-action 3D film is pushed where it’s never gone before by the extreme stunts in the third installment of Jackass 3D [JCKA3]. The first featured version of the MTV series grossed $22.8 million in 2002, while the sequel reached $29.0 million in 2006. The Jackass fanbase is unlikely to have grown since the last movie as its targeted young male audience matured. Opening in 3081 theaters, Jackass 3D could muster about $27 million with the help of the 3D surcharge.
Summit has released the full theatrical trailer for the"SHOT IN 3D" actioner Drive Angry [DRVAN]. Nicholas Cage [NCAGE] is apparently making new movies now by mashing two of his previous films like say Gone in Second Sixty Seconds and Ghost Rider. The new trailer adds a supernatural twist to the story by introducing William Fichtner [WFICH] as the devil.A new poster also debuts featuring the lovely Amber Heard [AHEAR] in the hot seat.
After pulling the film off the shelves of The Weinsten Co., Magnolia has unveiled the first trailer for All Good Things [AGTHN] on Apple. The love story turned murder mystery is inspired by the real-life Robert Durst, a New York real estate tycoon suspected of murdering his wife, who dissappeared never to be found. If not for Ryan Gosling [RGOSL] and Kirsten Dunst [KDUNS] in the lead roles, the film could be mistaken for a 'Lifetime Movie of the Week'.
