After winning the Academy Award for directing Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle [DBOYL] had his choice of projects for his follow-up. He decided on the adventure drama 127 Hours [127HR] based the true life story of Aron Ralston, a mountain climber who became trapped in the Utah wilderness while bouldering alone. Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer on Apple and 127 Hours appears very similar in look and feel to Boyle's earlier film The Beach starring Leonardo Dicaprio.
Hollywood's assorted variety of five new releases were no match for the assembled action stars of The Expendables [XPNDB] as the Lionsgate film remained atop the weekend box office despite decaying 53% to an estimated $16.5 millionThe action adventure has already earned an impressive $64.9 million after just two weekends.
Vampires Suck [VAMPM] faired the best out of the newcomers, draining $12.2 million over the weekend after already collecting $6.4 million on Wednesday and Thursday. The...
This weekend finds Hollywood dropping five wide releases into the dog days of summer. None appears to have the buzz to overtake the top two films from last weekend. While The Expendables [XPNDB] beat Eat Pray Love [ETPLV] by more than $10 million in their debut, the rematch looks to be a closer fight. Male-oriented action films are typical front-loaded and Sly and co. won’t be an exception. The Expendables is likely to drop 55% to around $15 million. On the other hand, the older...
After sitting on the shelves for more than three years, Paramount has finally dusted off the horror film Case 39 [CAS39] for release on October 1st under its Paramount Vantage label. The film stars Renee Zellweger [RZELL] and Bradley Cooper [BCOOP] pre-The Hangover since he gets killed off. I haven't reveal any spoiler that's not already in the trailer, since the trailer pretty much gives away the whole movie in a desperate effort to entice an audience.
Summit has revealed the first trailer for the fact-based spy drama Fair Game [FGAME]. Naomi Watts [NWATT] stars as the real-life Valerie Plame, a covert CIA agent who was outed by the Bush Administration when her husband diplomat Joe Wilson, played by Sean Penn [SPENN], raised questions about Iraq's ability to produce weapons of mass destruction, one of the rationale used in starting the war in Iraq. The film reveals truths about the U.S. Government more sinister than any fictional plot...
Fox Searchlight has debuted the first trailer for the psychological thriller Black Swan [BLKSW] directed by Daron Aronofsky [DARON]. The more artistic variation on Single White Female stars Natalie Portman [NPORT] as a ballerina competing to land the coveted lead role in 'Swan Lake' against a rival dancer, played by Mila Kunis [MKUNI]. The two enter into a friendship that soon turns twisted and the pressure from the competition envelops into madness. If that's not enough to entice...
Rogue Pictures has uploaded the first trailer fo the 3D horror film My Soul to Take [MYSOL]. Directed by Wes Craven [WCRAV], the story bares an uncanny resemblance to A Nightmare on Elm Street complete with a hand coming out of a wall over the bed. Here's the official synopsis:
In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the...
Magnolia has unveiled the teaser trailer for the pseudo-documentary I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix [ISHJP]. Directed by Casey Affleck [CAFFL], the film chronicles Joaquin Phoenix's [JPHOE] meltdown as he supposedly retired from acting to pursue a music career as a rapper. The serious tone of the short teaser indicates the filmmakers still want the audience to believe that Phoenix's looney binge was the real deal. Unfortunately, no one fell for Phoenix's put-on farce...
In a battle of the sexes at the weekend box office, the testosterone fueled The Expendables [XPNDB] triumphed over the estrogen driven Eat Pray Love [ETPLV]. The throwback to '80s action film muscled an estimated $35.0 million. Directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone [SSTAL], The Expendables featured an all-star cast of male action stars with real stunts and real explosions. The audience skewed 60% male, which likely means the opening weekend will prove to be front-loaded.

Although the non-fiction book "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman" was an exposé into the pharmaceutical industry, its feature film adaptation Love and Other Drugs [LVDRG] from the looks of the trailer released on Apple has been turned into a Jerry Maguire-esque romance. Jake Gyllenhaal [JGYLL] and Anne Hathaway [AHATH] reunite after playing a less than happy together couple in Brokeback Mountain. Like prescription drugs, this trailer should come with a warning: picking up women...
