MTV has scored the full trailer to CBS Films' romance Beastly [BSTLY], a modern day retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" starring Vanessa Hudgens [VHUDG] and Alex Pettyfer [APETT]. Instead of born with physical deformities, the guy is magically uglified with scaring and varicose veins which doesn't really look that bad. Isn't the guy rich enough to afford some plastic surgery? I've seen much worst cases fixed up on "Nip/Tuck".
With two new R-rated films underperforming at the weekend box office, the family-friendly How to Train Your Dragon [HTRYD] regained the top stop with an estimated $20 million in its fourth frame. The 3D fantasy from DreamWorks Animation declined just 20% in bringing its cumulative gross to $158.6 million.
Like its title character, Kick-Ass [KCKAS] got its ass kicked at the box office. The Lionsgate release debuted in second place with $19.7 milion. The violent superhero satire did not...
Sony has unveiled the latest trailer for the Happy Madison family comedy Grown Ups [GRWUP]. The narrator would have you believe that these guys were friends as young kids who are getting back together for the first time in thirty years. Seriously, which of you out there have kept in touch with this many friends from elementary school, or even middle school, that you have not seen for thirty years. Those kids would nothing in common as adults.
Produced outside the Hollywood studio system, the superhero satire Kick-Ass [KCKAS] relishes in breaking all the rules of conventional films. Although grounded in the real world where superheroes don’t exist, the Matthew Vaughn [MVAUG] directed film nevertheless takes off into a fantasy realm where a 12-year-old girl is able kill dozens of people, all without remorse or even a conscious. Lionsgate picked up the film after its rapturous reception at Comic-Con and has been supporting the...
The top nine took the stage last night to sing the songs of Elvis Presley mentored by 2009 winner Adam Lambert. Last week, the judges used the sole ‘Judges Save’ to keep Michael Lynche [AI9MLY] from being eliminated. This means that tonight, two contestants will be sent home. So did the blues tinged performances from last night render, more of the good stuff?
Most of last night’s performances did not deviate from the previous weeks. Contestants operated in the same comfort zone with none...
In a decision sure to split the fanboy community, Marvel has settled on Joss Whedon [JWHED] to direct The Avengers [AVNGR], the superheroes movie that will unite Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Hulk as well as agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. like Nick Fury and Black Widow. IESB first reported Whedon as a leading candidate for the job on April 1st, which Deadline now confirmed was no joke. Whedonites are no doubt rejoicing at the announcement, while non-Buffyverse fans are left hating the...
Serving up the ultra-violence with a big toothy grin, Kick-Ass [KCKAS] lives up to its name. Fast-paced, funny and quite often berserk, the film definitely delivers what it's core audience of young males demands. Whether it can break out beyond that is an open question.
The film opens with protagonist Dave Lizewski (played convincingly by Aaron Johnson [AJOHN]) asking a question that has occurred to many who read comic books: why aren't there any people out there pretending to be...
The weekend box office title remained up for grabs as earning estimates for Date Night [DATEN] and Clash of the Titans [CLASH] are within a hair of each other. The Steve Carell [SCARE] and Tina Fey [TFEY] comedy debuted with an estimated $27.1 million, just ahead of the $26.9 million reported by the fantasy remake for its second weekend. Studios have a tendency to inflate weekend estimates, so the crown won't be settled until the actual numbers come in Monday afternoon.
Clash of the...
Sony has released the first trailer to the action comedy The Other Guys [OTHRG] and it's all over the map. The movie doesn't know what it wants to be. The trailer sets up a pair of top cops played by Samuel L. Jackson [SLJAC] and Dwayne Johnson [TROCK], but then inexplicably drops them to focus on a couple of desk cops played by Will Farrell [WFERR] and Mark Wahlberg [MWAHL]. They are the classic partners who buddy up to fight crime, but don't get along with each other. The duo bumble...
More story details are revealed in the full trailer for the sequel Sex and the City 2 [SATC2]. Carrie bumps into her old flame Aidan Shaw, played by John Corbett [JCORB], while the fabulous foursome are vacationing in Abu Dhabi. Any ensuing complication will no doubt be tidy up within the two-hour running time. Cameos by Penelope Cruz [PCRUZ] and Miley Cyrus [MCYRU] are also given away in a bid to widen the audience.
