The big acquistion story coming out of the 2009 Sundance Film festival was the crime drama Brooklyn's Finest [BRKLN].  The acquiring distributor Senator Entertainment set the release for November 2009 and the film re-cut its ending.  However, Senator ran into money woes and in September Overture Films took over distribution in the U.S.. 

Set with a new release date of March 5, 2010, Overture has now debuted the trailer on Apple.  Armed with an all-star cast, director Antonie Fuqua [AFUQU]...

The lineup of films selected for competition in the 2010 Sundance Film Festival has been announced.  Here are the 16 films competiting in the U.S. Dramatic Competition:

War Machine is revealed in the teaser poster for Paramount's Iron Man 2 [IRNM2].  As comic fans know, Colonel James Rhodes, played by Don Cheadle [DCHEA] in the sequel, is the man inside War Machine.  The first trailer will likely appear within the next couple of weeks.

After easily out-distancing the competition last week, The Twilight Saga: New Moon [TWLI2] barely beat out The Blind Side [BLDSD] in their second weekend.  New Moon earned an estimated $66 million over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with The Blind Side followed closely at $64.2 million over the same five-day period.  Comparing the three day weekend portion, New Moon fell an aweful 70% from its debut, while The Blind Side actually rose up 18%. Blowing away even the most optimistic box office predictions, The Twilight Saga: New Moon [TWLI2] doubled up on the opening of the original Twilight.  Summit has a blockbuster franchise that’s powered by an audience that’s 80% female.  The romance earned over $10 million this past Monday and Tuesday.  Even with a weekend drop-off of 60%, New Moon may stake another $70 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday.

Sony Picture Classics has released a trailer to their awards contender The Last Station [LSTTN] on Apple.   A romance is set against a fictionalized account in the last days of Leo Tolstoy, the Russian writer and "War and Peace" novelist.  The drama boasts an impressive cast of Christopher Plummer [CPLUM], Helen Mirren [HMIRR], Paul Giamatti [PGIAM] and James McAvoy [JMCAV]. 

The Last Station will begin a one-week Oscar run on Dec 4th before opening in release on January 15th, 2010.

Dimension Films has cut a new trailer for the comedy Youth in Revolt [YRVLT] starring Michael Cera [MCERA].  Focus groups must have shown a liking to Steve Buscemi [SBUSC] and Justin Long [JLONG] as they are featured in the new trailer at the expense of Fred Willard [FWILL] and Ray Liotta [RLIOT], who are now nowhere to be seen. Youth in Revolt will sneak preview on January 2nd, before its nationwide release on January 8th.
