Since movie stocks that opened this weekend are no longer halted, why don't the prices move until tomorrow?
This is something I noticed a long time ago and have been meaning to ask... Apparently stocks that have been halted for the weekend can trade but the prices will not move immediately once the weekend results are released. For example, today we got all the weekend numbers for All About Steve, Gamer and Extract. We are free to buy and sell those securities as we please. (normally this happens on a Sunday.) But I've noticed that those prices will not move until the day AFTER the release of weekend numbers. In this case there will be no price movement on those securites until tomorrow/Tuesday. Why is this? Is it essentially the reverse of an IPO: you get a full day for the market to "calm down" before you make your moves. Is this away of avoiding the crazy market flucations that would happen if prices changed the moment numbers were released? If so, why is that considered a bad thing? You're only delaying the inevitable. By now have I answered my own question?
